Once upon a time, way back in 2009, Sarah and Brian sat down for dinner with another young married couple to discuss the possibility of opening a real estate brokerage together. It was time to get down to the nuts and bolts of the business arrangement. Sarah asked the couple across the table, “Why do you want to go into business for yourself?” To which the husband replied, “Because I owe it to myself.” And he proceeded to rattle off a list of career experience and accolades, stating he believed the next logical step was starting a business.

They then asked Sarah the exact same question, “Why do you want to open your own brokerage?”

“Because I don’t want to play in the sandbox alone.”

In that moment we realized it would never work to open a company together because the “why” was just too different. What we didn’t know was how that one sentence would ultimately form the foundation for our corporate culture, our growth strategy, and remains our “why” all these years later.
